What is Rimac?
For those of us who live locally, we know what 'Rimac' is! But remember, Saltfleetby is now world wide and there are people out there who have never heard of 'Rimac'. So I will try, with the help of others to tell you about it: - Rimac is believed to take its name from the ship ‘The Rimac’ built at Whitehaven in 1883 and wrecked off Saltfleet in Dec 1874. Rimac - is part of the Lincolnshire, Saltfleetby -Theddlethorpe Dunes. Situated on the East Coast of England, Mid-way between Cleethorpes and Skegness. It is a National Nature Reserve owned by English Nature and managed in conjunction with Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust
The coastline along the Eastern edge of Saltfleetby, known as Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes (which includes Rimac) has a lot of history, it has not always been a nature reserve! I was interested to find out more about the history of the nature reserve and I had been told "Talk to Bert Richardson, he can tell you about it" so that is just what I did! To find out what Bert had to say click here or click on Next Also See Postcards of the Rimac Holiday Camp click here. If you would like to find out more about Rimac and the Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe dunes as they are now, visit English nature or Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust or to see a map of the reserve today
