HOW  Prices HAVE Changed over the years!!

  • 1965  -  Land belonging to “West View” sold for £4.500 (approx. £195 per acre)

  • January 1966 -  Farmhouse “West View” sold for £1,155.

  • 1966 - a Television Licence cost £5,00.

  • 1966 - a Ton of coal cost £13.00

  • 1944 - A visit to the Chiropodist cost Four shillings, (20 pence)

  • 1899 - Mr. Chapman, who had been the crossing keeper at North End gatehouse, moved to the old house in Long-gate, which he had bought for £550. Between April.15th and Aug18th 1901 he built a new house which is now known as “Poplar Farm”

  • 1905 Butter was One shilling and two pence a pound (about 6p)

  • Eggs were One shilling a dozen (5p)

  • Apples were Two shillings a stone (10p)

  • Feb 23 1906 - A carthorse cost £28-7-0

  • Jan 17 1907 - A ton of cake (cattle) cost £8-18-8

  • A ton of Bran cost £1-6-3 (£1-31)

  • May 22 1907 - A suit of clothes cost Sixteen shillings. (80p)

  • 1907 - A trap Licence cost  £0-15-0  (75p)

  • July 1968 - Milk was 10 1/2d per pint.

  • Jan 1976 - Potatoes were selling for £146-00 per ton at the farm gate.

  • June 1969 - Flight from Gatwick to Toronto (Canada) £52-00 Return.

  • 1947 - The Angel, Main Road, sold for £1,525-00

  • May 1948 - Lindum Cottage, Main Road, was sold for £580-00

  • 1948 - Fern Cottage, North End Lane, was sold for £625-00

  • 1957 - Ivy House, Main Road, was sold for £2,500-00

  • 1970 - Building plots in Saltfleetby were sold for £200-00
