Nancy Vickers Retires from St Peter's Church Choir

Nancy Vickers came to live in Saltfleetby after World War Two when she married John Vickers whom she met in the army, she being in the ATS.

She came to the West End Methodist Church (Now pulled down, Next the Football Field).

Mrs. Spendlow was the organist and we had a small choir to help with the hymn singing. Mrs. Spendlow at once noticed what a good singer Nancy was and asked her to join the choir. The choir sometimes went to other villages to give small concerts etc and Nancy used to be one of the soloists.  As she could not read music, Mrs. Spendlow helped her to learn the songs and she was very quick to learn a new song.

Nancy really had a lovely rich voice, very true and never off the note. She sang with the Methodist Churches at Saltfleetby until the churches joined, and when the St Peter's choir was formed she was an automatic choice to join. She has always been very loyal and never missed a practice unless she was really ill. She was still quick to learn a new piece of music and always willing to ask for help if she needed it She has been very keen on the dress code and always said 'If we're a choir we should look like a choir' and she always encouraged new members to dress the part. She also has been instrumental in organising Christmas and Birthday cards and Christmas presents for the Conductor and Organist - much appreciated.

She will certainly be missed and we hope that she may still be able to sing with us occasionally when she is able.

At the end of the Christmas Carol Service, Nancy was presented with a Photo Frame and a Bouquet from the choir as a mark of our affection.
