Saltfleetby is one of the many Lincolnshire 'Marsh' Villages and lies approx 8 miles East of Louth on the B1200 and stretches for approximately 3 miles from the 'West End' to the 'East End' of the village, it is approx 2 miles wide and consists of Three Parishes, these are Saltfleetby St. Peter's, Saltfleetby All Saints and Saltfleetby St Clements.

So when is a Village not a Village?

When we think of a ‘Village’ most of us think of a Group of Houses and Streets, with a Pub and a Shop/Post Office, gathered around a Village Green, or perhaps even a Duck Pond, making ‘The Heart of The Village’.

When it comes to Saltfleetby, it is not a village as most of us would think of one!!!

Because of Saltfleetby being made up of ‘Three Parishes’ and stretching for well over 3 miles, the village does not have a ‘Heart’ to it, and because of this, makes a East /West Divide within the village (I am told this has always been the case and sadly this attitude still remains today).

As you enter ‘The Village’ on the B1200 from the West, you come into ‘St. Peters’. This could be a village on its own, it has the Garage, the New Village Hall/ Football Club and until its closure recently the Shop/Post Office, Street Lighting, Footpath, Speed Limits and a goodly amount of houses all close together.

As you pass St Peter’s Church, you will start to see the ‘Mar Dyke’ as it emerges into the open on the left and continues almost to the end of the B1200.

Continue on along the Main Road and you will find that ‘All Saints’ is split along the B1200 and Church Lane/Back St, but it does have the Pub, Street Lighting, most of it has a Footpath, Speed Limits, the disused All Saints Church, and a grave-yard, still in use today.

Now, to the East of the pub, the Speed Limits End, the Footpath Stops, and you enter the ‘East End’, the Forgotten Part of the village!!!

The first few properties still come under All Saints, the rest are in St Clements!!!!

With the Widest and Deepest part of the Mar Dyke, the Fastest Section of the road and NO Footpath or Street Lighting, anyone living along this part of Saltfleetby, takes their life into their own hands every time they walk/cycle/drive on this section of the road!!!

Sadly, neither the Parish nor Local Council seems interested in the welfare of St Clements or the residents who live along this section of B1200!!!

There is also a lot of talk about ‘Incomers/Outsiders/Not one of us’ by the so called ‘Soloby Born and Bred’ folk, I wish that these people for once, would stop and remember that had it not been for the ‘Incomers/Outsiders/Not one of us’ in the first place most of them would not be here today!!

So, what does Saltfleetby have to offer?

It has a Primary School that any village, of any size, would be proud of.

And some Fascinating Village History, Worth Shouting About, and that is just what this website is designed to do!!!
